Surface of the Earth and Other Works Reviewed
United Press International reviews Reynolds Price The Surface of the Earth as a long absorbing Southern family saga set in North Carolina and Virginia from 1903 to 1944. It praises Price’s narrative intensity and regional immersion alongside a broader Bicentennial context with John Lewis Stage’s Birth of America and Kahane’s defense narrative in The Story of the Jewish Defense League.
