Vermont Postal Service shows profit amid wider closures debate

Sen. Patrick Leahy released figures indicating Vermont posted a $1.083 million yearly postal profit in fiscal 1975 as operating revenues topped expenses. He noted Vermont’s share of national totals was small but that the state’s rural profile and efficient operations offset calls to cut or reshape post office service. Meanwhile four inmates escaped from the Community Correctional Center in South Burlington, slipping out late Saturday by tearing from a ventilator hatch.
