Vermont billboards ban proposal draws cautious support
Development Commissioner Elbert G. Moulton backs Rep. Theodore Riehl’s bill to ban all billboards in Vermont. He warns the plan may be too radical but supports a possible compromise, and he questions traffic impacts from state signs. Also discussed are interstate symbol markers and shifting sign control to the Highway Department. A separate Education Board member seeks a more advisory role for the board and governor naming powers, citing the Gibboney affair as a trigger for reform.
