Bennington Banner (Newspaper) - July 23, 1963, Bennington, Vermont Co captures interstate league Crown with 9-1 win Bennington Banner tuesday july 23, 1963-7 North Bennington a Bennington co took advantage of the Breaks at Welling Field last night and clinched the interstate league Crown behind the one hit pitching of Chip Durocher with a 9-1 win Over North Bennington. Although North Bennington was not involved in the title drive they battled co with everything and held a Short lived 1-0 Lead before co pushed across two runs in the top of the fourth inning All that Durocher needed for the Victory. North Bennington tallied in the last of the third As Rick Bartholdi walked went to second on a clean single up the Middle by Jim Martin the Only hit they collected. Bartholdi scored moments later when he attempted to steal third and a missed single Between the Catcher and third baseman allowed the throw to skip into left Field the runner racing Home. Co came Back As Pat Moore reached on an error was sacrificed to second and scored on a single to right by Jim pleasant. Pleasant went to second on the throw to the plate and continued to third As the throw sailed Over the Catcher s head. Pleasant tallied on a perfect squeeze bunt by Bob Boulet and that was the game and the title. At alumni Field Luries of Hoosick Falls n.y., scored a 5-2 win Over the Bennington elks.
