State's First Environment Appeal Hearing Test Case July 28
A Bennington BCIC appeal challenges a Spruce Paper Co plant permit for a 7.2 million dollar paper mill on the Hoosic River in Pownal Vermont near the New York line. The District Environmental Commission led by John M. Moore will oversee hearings in Montpelier on July 28 at 10 am.

Prouty Names Chairman For Re-Election Drive
Senator Winston L. Prouty appoints Frank E. Dion of Burlington as chairman of the Re Elect Senator Prouty Committee to back a third term. Dion, 41, leaves Walston & Co. four months, previously led the 1964 campaign, and serves as deputy head of the Burlington office. Porter Moore Sr. of Newport named treasurer. Dion says the campaign gains momentum with a positive record based appeal. The couple, living in Burlington, has four children. Dion is a UVM alumnus and former development director at the university.
