Canaan Street of New Hampshire Preserves Historic District
In Canaan New Hampshire planners laid out Broad Street in 1788 and today the street remains unchanged as part of the first historic district in the state. The village, perched near Cardigan Mountain, features the Meeling House and Cole's Tavern historic structures, and residents plan an August fundraiser titled Art of Northern New England to restore the old meeting house.

Springfield boy convicted in fatal stabbing of 7 year old girl
In Springfield Massachusetts an eight year old boy convicted of delinquency by reason of manslaughter in the death of seven year old Lisa Green awaits final sentencing. His lawyers cite psychiatric reports and hearings as insufficient to explain the murder. The coroner notes the girl was stabbed nine times. The judge postponed sentencing to July 24 to review mental health findings. The boy has been described as well behaved and returned to his parents after prior psychological testing.
