Man survives 42 days adrift at sea aboard 11 foot boat
William C. Hoadley and Debbie Blocker tell of 42 days drifting through the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico with two dogs on an 11 foot diesel boat. They survived on fish, rainwater, vitamin pills and improvised gear after the Tahoma foul line failure left them powerless. The couple, pregnant Debbie, left on May 27 from Spanish Honduras and were found by a tug 60 miles southeast of the Mississippi Estuary.

Treasure Salvors Find $400 Million Sunken Atocha Treasure
Florida authorities take custody of the first treasure haul from the Nuestra Senora de Atocha wreck. About three quarters of a million dollars in a blackened silver bar and 700 gold coins recovered so far. Treasure Salvors estimates salvage costs at $700,000 with more than 47 tons of silver and 27 tons of gold still aboard. The haul is stored in a Key West bank vault under guard as claims are processed.
