Dover 19th Century Ledger Collection Donated to Vermont Society
The Jones account books kept by William Harvey Jones from Dover, spanning 1808 to 1873, document storekeeping banking tanning and milling along with civic duties. Donated by Martha Jones Upton, the volumes illuminate Dover’s isolated economy and notable public service roles including town clerk postmaster selectman state legislator and civil war enlistment efforts. The Vermont Historical Society will add the cowhide bound ledgers to its permanent Vermont collection.
