Vermont builds 120 fishing access areas in eight years

MONTPELIER Vermont 120 access areas for fishermen have been built in the past eight years. Roger Seamans of the Vermont Fish and Game Department says about $55,000 yearly in federal Dingle Johnson funds supports access projects. The money comes from a sports fishing gear tax and is boosted by Vermont license sales. Future sites may include picnic and camping uses as demand grows, with construction money potentially via the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. The department owns land on several lakes and ponds but has not yet developed them due to low demand.
