Danbury Prison Fire Inmates Drop Murder Claims
Inmates who survived the Danbury federal prison fire are no longer claiming guards tried to murder them by delaying door openings. Officials say five inmates died and 80 were injured in the pre-dawn blaze, later ruled arson. Guards and staff, including Army specialist Gary Henman, refocus on recovery and investigation as officials note inmates cooled to the tragedy. The arsonist set clothes in the shower room, a federal inquiry continues.

Crash and prowler reports in Hoosick New York
Rensselaer County deputies investigated an auto crash on White Street near Cummings Road. Vincent M Conway lost control and hit a tree while riding with Donald Bett. They were taken to Putnam Memorial Hospital. A prowler report at 4 02 a m Saturday from Ann Kelly of 2 Quarry Street reported noises and a tinny sound then door banging and suspects heading for her car.

Man arrested after Hoosick accident
State police investigated an accident near Delaney's Hotel in Hoosick N Y at 9 30 PM. Dennis M Cook 18 of Bennington was arrested for failure to keep right and driving an unlicensed vehicle. He was arraigned and remanded to jail for lack of a $100 fine. Three passengers injured and treated by Hoosick Rescue Squad Sharon Bolsper 18 and Rebecca Ertel 20 suffered knee injuries while Joseph W Baker 18 of North Bennington broke a right hand.

Vermont Young Democrats plan Miami Beach convention
The Vermont chapter will send a delegation to the national Young Democrats of America convention in Miami Beach July 27 to 29. Peter Galbraith of Newfane leads the Vermont group. Marine Lance Corporal Joseph J. Stevens of East Dorset is deployed in the Western Pacific with Battalion Landing Team 3 9, based in Okinawa, and BLT 39 will train at Camp Fuji, Japan. Major other attendees include Rep. Althea Kroger and Rep. George McCann along with local supporters. The convention at the Deauville Hotel draws about 1,000 young Democrats from 1,400 local groups. membership is open to those under 36. The Vermont chapter reestablished its state constitution last June and advocates candidate recruitment, environmental protection, civil liberties, and policy discussion forums.
