Sniper scare fails to halt Ford's motorcade in Dallas
In Dallas in 1963 a sniper scare disrupted Gerald Ford's motorcade at the World Trade Center opening but a rock or heat was blamed for the shattered window. Ford, unshaken, delivered his speech and golfed later as officials clarified the alert was false. Police and Secret Service responded quickly.

Lightning hits Vernon Vernon plant shuts after storm
Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corp plant was struck by lightning and shut down Friday afternoon. Spokesman Larry Keyes said the 540,000 kilowatt facility was hit several times in various locations, causing electrical problems with plant computers but no injuries and emissions well below approved levels. If restarted today it could reach 80 percent capacity within 24 hours.
