New York court narrows child support for independent minors
The New York Court of Appeals ruled that a parent need not continue support for an employable minor who leaves home to live independently. The decision centered on a 20 year old daughter who moved out of college housing against her father’s wishes and sought ongoing support. The court emphasized that parental duty to support is conditioned by the child’s obedience to reasonable parental discipline.

Rock festival to challenge Jeffords ordinance in Vermont
Dennis Morrisseau plans a fund raising concert in Richmond for the Vermont chapter of the ACLU to test a municipal ordinance that bars rock concerts. The event, titled Grandfathers' Country Music and Rock Festival, aims for 3,000 to 4,000 attendees and will feature fiddlers, banjo players, and rock groups. The Vermont chapter contends the rule violates First Amendment assembly rights and equal protection, noting Richmond and other towns adopted the ordinance requiring venues to meet lengthy limits.
