Snelling Pushes 3 Percent Sales Tax for Vermont Education
Vermont gubernatorial candidate Richard Snelling urged a 3 percent statewide sales tax with revenues split three ways to fund education, cut property taxes, and reform the income tax. He argued the plan would raise about 15 million annually, boost state aid for schools to about 40 percent of town costs, and ease the burden on homeowners. He labeled property taxes as the most regressive tax and tied school costs to rising local tax bills.
