Trustees Discuss Various Village Matters
Bennington Village trustees heard Atty. John H. Williams say the village likely holds title to much of the Benton's Pond area near East Main Street, amid reports of topsoil sales by Mary A. Sleeman. They authorized Williams to notify Sleeman and seek proof if she claims ownership. The board set next week for a Pine Circle drainage inspection after concerns about South Street flooding and planned a first hand check of water runoff.

Bennington School Board Backs Oil Heat for New School
The Bennington School District unanimously approves heating the proposed Stark Street elementary school with oil if built. Board members, who met for the last time before the first annual meeting, say oil is cheaper than electric heat for now, with future electric power imports or nuclear plants possibly altering costs. They note higher construction costs for electric heating due to double thermopane windows and insulation. Member John Riddle believes voters may favor the bond issue if more convention article context is provided.
