Editorial argues the B1 bomber’s job claims mask heavy net costs to most districts. It notes Rockwell’s spread of subcontracts across 49 states and forecasts 87 percent of districts would pay more in taxes than receive contracts, with $100 billion in operating costs looming. Humorous anecdotes include a Pennsylvania trip where a 100000 mile odometer sparked noon martinis just as a hotel fire drew crowds, a This Is Your Life parody, a 40th surprise party gone wrong, and wedding mishaps with missing ushers and a chair gone missing under a tent. The moral: celebrations are not always successful.

The note praises the entertaining show, food, and music at a low price, and hopes the tradition continues despite upcoming changes at Mt. Anthony. Signed by Sue Cross and others from Bennington.
Edward Keough thanks supporters for their votes in the Bennington School District treasurer race and pledges to justify the confidence shown. He notes letters to the editor are welcome with signature and address, and 200 words or fewer preferred.
