Diver Reaches Body Of 9-Year-Old In Deerfield River
A Brattleboro diver from the local fire department recovered the body of nine year old Frederick Roy from the Deerfield River after he drowned while swimming with 35 campers at a private Heat New York camp. Camp counselors saw the water rise and found the boy missing as a surge from a Whitingham dam release raised river levels by about a foot. Authorities noted the warning sign had been knocked down. Similar surges have troubled swimmers and fishermen previously.

Weekend Canadian crossings to US rise at Lake Champlain
UPI reports Bernard Steen of the INS says Canadian weekend visits to the United States grew about 20 percent this summer. Highgate Springs tabulation on June 25 and 26 shows over 7,000 cars carrying about 21,000 passengers. July 4 weekend saw nearly 9,000 cars with about 24,000 Canadians entering the US. Pacifists Hold Vigil Over Draft Card Burner in Boston
Thirteen pacifists slept on a grass patch outside Boston’s Federal Building in a vigil and fast in protest of a draft card burner’s sentence. David P. O'Brien, 20, of Framingham, received an indefinite term for burning his draft card March 31 at the South Boston Courthouse steps. The group, eight women and five men, are members of the Committee for Non-Violent Action. A similar protest will run outside Charles Street Jail until O'Brien moves to the Federal Youth Correction Center in Ohio.
