Fourth of July drew near record crowds across Pownal Shaftsbury Readsboro and surrounding areas in Vermont. Green Mountain Park in Pownal saw 6050 in a nine card racing program. One injury reported Mrs Adah Leavens 19 of Pownal in a highway collision on U S 7.

Nearly 300 people including 36 clergymen were arrested at Gwynn Oak amusement park near Baltimore during a July 4 protest to integrate the facility.
