Vermont Yankee Nuclear Plant Debate Continues
The article explains how Vermont Yankee generates electricity through a turbine and condenser system with river cooling. It notes the shift from direct river intake to cooling towers, cites contamination concerns as hypothetical, and mentions the “China syndrome” fear. Ownership would largely stay in Vermont, enough to power Rutland, with hearings and debates ongoing as 92 percent complete operation looms.

Vermont eyes slight revenue gain for 1971 year
Budget and Management Commissioner Ronald Crisman said Vermont should barely realize its revised 111 million dollar revenue estimates for the 1971 fiscal year. The state shows a 1.5 million ahead figure over the original 110 million, but Crisman called it not a surplus since funds are already spent in a preapproved 1971 budget. Officials keep books open to tally late receipts and payments, with any excess already earmarked for 1972 state aid to education. MacDowell Colony arts grant approved for 46,791 dollars to support fellowships for professionals.
