Scranton Ends South Dakota Delegates Bid
Pennsylvania Governor William W. Scranton wrapped up his South Dakota delegate search and flew to North Dakota for the same purpose. He departed Sioux Falls at 8 34 a m CST with family and aides about 25 people. One greeting witness was Henry Sulkin a Sioux Falls jeweler wearing a large Scranton button. Scranton thanked the crowd as he left. About 1 000 people were on hand to greet him Thursday night.

State Police Boost Patrols for Holiday Weekend in Bennington
State Police Sgt John A Polejacik of Shaftsbury said troopers will patrol Bennington County highways in full force this weekend focusing on traffic violations. They will also check for fireworks violations while urging careful driving and avoiding drinking before travel. Governor Hoff and Public Safety Commissioner Baumann back the lights on during daylight to remind motorists to drive safely. Baumann ordered stricter load securing for trucks and violators will be prosecuted. Two accidents were investigated this morning in Bennington County near Powell's Store on Vermont 346 and on Vermont 9 near the Bennington Woodford line. The first crash damaged two cars. no injuries. The second involved Loretta Judge, 45, of 1381/2 Dewey St, suffering a bloody nose.

Melvin Moore, 17, of East Harlem N Y, drowned Wednesday while swimming Little Rocky Pond two miles north of Mt Tabor Landgrove Road. Divers recovered his body after a 10 hour search in 40 feet of water. Moore had joined a summer hiking trip with American Friends Service Committee.
