Astronauts Honored In Open Slot Flybys At Arlington
Astronauts continued from Page 1 to Arlington for burial services on Tuesday following Sunday tributes for Chaffee. Three fellow astronauts conducted open slot flybys in NASA jets, paying a solemn Air Force salute to the fallen. The plane with the dead from Cape Kennedy departed under clear skies near launch pad 34, reached Andrews under blue skies and a cold wind. A trailer carrying a generator toppled near the skid strip minutes before caskets arrived, but pallbearers stood silent as the caskets were loaded aboard the C135B without formal ceremonies at the strip.
