First Blast at Sales Tax Is Fired Off by a Democrat
Vermont senator Leo O'Brien issued a six point alternative to Gov. Deane Davis 4 percent general sales tax urging the Ways and Means Committee to consider a one year revenue plan. His proposal calls for higher personal income and corporate taxes, a rooms and meals boost, expanded splinter taxes, and a statewide education property tax, aiming for a balanced FY 1970 budget with $11.95 million in new receipts.
