Vermont panel orders land sale to Negro in Shaftsbury case
The Vermont Human Rights Commission ruled that a Bennington couple discriminated against Dr. Robert Goldsboro by refusing to sell 20 acres in Shaftsbury for 7000 dollars because of his color. The Skidmores must sell at the original price and reimburse up to 200 dollars in legal costs. the decision followed a Burlington meeting and was not disclosed until today.

Washington UPI Senator Gordon Allott charged opposition to Interior Secretary-designate Walter Hickel was fueled by conservation groups and politics. Senator William Proxmire joined the opposition noting Hickel's close ties to oil and gas interests and saying he is not the man for the job. Allott heads the Senate Interior Committee which approved Hickel 14-3.

Utica and nearby counties cracked in three central New York counties as two NY State Troopers posing as hippies gathered evidence for what police described as one of the largest narcotics raids in the state. About 70 people were arrested including 36 in Utica and 25 in Syracuse with several juveniles. opium codeine and marijuana were the drugs targeted and suppliers were traced to New York City or Syracuse. The investigation began last April as the two investigators used disguise and even staged a fake arrest to convince suspects of their real credentials.
