Bennington Selectmen Reject Poll Tax Hike Plan
Bennington selectmen decided not to put a poll tax increase to voters this year. Francis J. Hogan had urged raising the poll tax to 1.50, but officials noted 6,206 on the rolls and the small revenue would burden property taxpayers more than any relief. They also discussed March meeting articles including Battle Day celebration funding and contingency flood control, plus possible petitions for five member boards and voting-machine complications. Deadline Feb 6 set for articles to appear in the warning.
