Bennington Selectmen Back Open Bidding for Pool Project
Bennington town leaders rejected a CRCG plan to immediately complete the unfinished Community Center pool and instead moved to open bidding by contractors. The decision could raise costs above 200000, as estimates suggest bids may exceed that amount. CRCG head Dr. Richard Sleeman argued a local contractor could finish under 200000, but officials chose competitive bidding to preserve public process and quality. Advertising for bids will begin soon, with Wright and Morrissey Inc. among firms expected to bid. Continuous changes to materials may be allowed under the winning bid to reduce price.

Pessimism on Rutland Bennington Beltlines Showcased
Rutland Vermont highway officials doubt funds will meet the 1956 seven year plan to beltlines around Bennington and Rutland. He said money problems and other priorities will limit progress though construction remains the aim.
