Dodd Wins Partial Victory in Suit Against Columnists
U.S. District Judge Alexander Holtzoff ruled that columnists Drew Pearson and Jack Anderson converted Dodd’s stolen documents for their own use. The decision allows Dodd to pursue damages for conversion, potentially up to about 1 million dollars, while rejecting a privacy invasion claim. The judge stated freedom of the press does not grant immunity from tort liability and that access to material remains limited to what is publicly available.
