Viet Cong accuses Saigon of heavy air raids
The Viet Cong accused Saigon of massive air strikes against a key Communist stronghold in the heaviest bombing since U.S. halted raids a year ago. They claimed 8 Saigon warplanes hit Thien Ngon 72 miles northwest of Saigon, damaging the airfield and prisoner exchange facilities. Saigon denied the strike and questioned the Communist claim. The Viet Cong also said raids hit a prisoner exchange site in the Central Highlands and a nearby peacekeeping outpost, while Saigon said it had stepped up raids behind Viet Cong lines to slow a supply buildup. They alleged American teams were misusing searches for dead and missing in action.
