Whitingham Plans Public Hearings on Zoning Vote
Whitingham officials set the third of four hearings on permanent zoning for Jan 27 at the Municipal Center in Jacksonville with a final hearing Feb 27. Voters will decide at March Town Meeting whether to adopt zoning. Objections were raised at a prior hearing by about 40 property owners to five and one acre minimum lot sizes, commercial designations along Routes 112 8A and 100, and trailers placement. The planning board favors five acre minimum in the western half to Clara Road and Route 100, with rest one acre. The plan largely affects New England Power Co owned land. Community leaders and residents urged residential zoning and cautious use of commercial spots, while questions about tax treatment and state guidance remained unresolved. The next hearing is planned Jan 27 with a final review Feb 27.
