Revival Dragnet Brings Webb’s Realistic Touch Back On TV

Television critic notes Dragnet's NBC revival presents a fresh stark realism in Joe Friday's casework. Webb preserves the show's perceptive, documentary style and challenges network trends toward sensationalism and youth-oriented content. The piece contrasts it with CBS and ABC offerings and highlights themes of law enforcement and youth behavior.

Slight Rise in Unemployment Signals Cooling Economy

The Labor Department reports December unemployment at 3.8 percent, up from 3.7 percent in November, but below 1966’s average of 3.9 percent. Commissioner Arthur Ross notes signals of slower growth include more part time work and shorter average work weeks, with a 70,000 job rise in contract construction suggesting potential softer money in home building. The civilian labor force totals 77.3 million with 2.7 million unemployed. A separate notice states the Woodford Citizens Caucus will meet January 19, 1967 at Woodford Hollow School at 7:00 p.m. to nominate officers for the March meeting.
