Rare Old Books Bound Repaired in Shaftsbury Mill
Kathryn Edwards and Gerhard Gerlach, married in Old Bennington in 1934, built a life around graphic arts and bookbinding. The Shaftsbury couple, educated in Leipzig and Milwaukee, created bindings for famous authors and institutions, including Keats, Poe, Shakespeare, and a 30 inch lectern Bible for the Duke of Windsor’s coronation. Their mill on Rte. 7, a historic stone shop, houses fine work and is tied to local craft heritage.
