Berlin Wall Curtailed Flow of Refugees in 1962
Berlin reports show the wall reduced East German refugee flow to a trickle in 1962. Felix von Eckardt, Adenauer’s Berlin representative, said West Germany registered 21,356 refugees in the past year, with no figure given for those who passed the wall. In 1961, East Germany sent 207,026 refugees. the wall went up in August 1961.
