Winter Jobs Area Drivers in Vermont Severe Cold
During World War II gas rationing made pleasure driving rare in Vermont. Yesterday the official temperature hit 14 below zero and did not rise above zero all day. This morning was 17 below. A rough survey of local garages showed that operations were heavily affected by the cold.

Day Long Battle Fought Near Sea of Galilee
Israeli and Jordanian Tajiks and fighter planes fought a day long border clash near the Sea of Galilee. Tenement Inferno Kills 13 In New York Slum Fire
A predawn blaze in a four story New York tenement on January 9 trapped residents as flames raced through the building. At least 13 people died, 26 were injured including 11 firefighters and two police officers.
