Leon R. Eldred of 112 Elm Street, finishing sixth year as Bennington selectman, will not seek a third term. Joseph Higgins, appointed in July after Clayton Daigneault’s resignation, will run for re election to the town board. Two of the three selectmen face election this year, one for a three year term and one for a one year term.

Romney Open to Draft Move Signals National Role
Michigan Governor George Romney suggested a formal draft for the Republican presidential nomination could be a strategic power move aimed at boosting his national influence. In a National Press Club speech he hinted he would accept a genuine draft if offered, and in a Associated Press interview said national events affect Michigan and he hopes to influence 1964 outcomes.
