Oil dealer cleared to nearly double storage capacity

Bennington Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment approved Cross Oil Co. owner Gordon Sweet to install three new tanks at Hicks Avenue, nearly doubling capacity from 38,500 to 80,000 gallons after agreeing to a 25-foot back lot variance and a six-tank plan. The panels also greenlighted a small 8 by 12 foot storage shed for Tansitor Electronics and a 20 by 26 foot hangar expansion at the county airport, with state fire marshal approval pending for the oil facility. Local gasoline dealers plan to meet Friday to discuss mutual issues amid ongoing fuel shortages and regulatory pressures.
