Stowe Man Builds a Mountain for Novice Skiers
Stowe resident Stu Ireland built a 480 foot by 80 foot high man made ski slope in his yard to help beginners. He installed a T bar lift with 800 skiers per hour capacity, four arch lamps for night skiing, a skating lake, and a warming shelter. Despite back pain and hospital stays, locals and visitors began using the slope on February 14, drawing praise and questions from larger ski operations. Ireland says novices deserve a safe space to learn without pressure.
