Communist forces launched their heaviest nationwide offensive in Cambodia, pounding government targets as close as 12 miles from Phnom Penh. Military spokesmen said the drive marked a major escalation in the Cambodian war, with American officials reporting strong communist pressure across key fronts.
President Nixon’s son in law Edward Finch Cox says Army life is “great” but food is only adequate. He spoke after worship at the White House while visiting Ivicia Nixon. Cambodian fighting raged near Phnom Penh with heavy clashes along Highway 3 and 2, reports say, as Khmer Rouge attacked government strongholds and a key river base on Mekong.
Saigon filed a formal complaint alleging three antiaircraft missile launch sites near Khe Sanh as a ceasefire violation. It claimed Soviet built missiles could reach 12 miles and were used to shoot down 16 U.S. planes during the Christmas to New Year bombing. Four South Vietnamese troops and civilians were among those killed as fighting continued in the Central Highlands. The complaint, delivered to ICCS acting chairman Michel Gauvin, demanded investigation.

The FDA announced an Ohio cannery recalled 50,000 more institutional size mushroom cans for possible botulinum toxin contamination, expanding a prior recall of 29,500. No botulism cases linked to the product have been reported, and the recall covers all No 10 cans, including those not sold for home use. United Canning Corp. of East Palestine, Ohio, expanded the recall voluntarily.
Memphis report cites Lt. Cmdr. Raymond Wohden saying eight years in a North Vietnam prison camp left him surprised by the U S cultural shift toward sexuality. He noted nude images in magazines but stressed he is not judgmental and that changes are not overwhelming.

Ankara reports military officials ordered newspapers to withhold two paragraphs from a speech condemning censorship. Editors say the decree enforces censorship for the first time since press freedom was restored in 1970, looming ahead of presidential elections.
