Bennington Police Grow From 10 to 24 in Three Years
Bennington's police force has expanded from 10 full-time officers in 1969 to 24, plus two dispatchers, with a new home in the historic blacksmith shop on South Street. The core remains from the old village department, led by Chief Fox, and includes lieutenants Kearns and Mattison, Sergeant Graham, Investigator Brown, and Patrolmen Ryan, DeLong, Pulver, and Greenslet. Most new hires were born in Bennington, the force aging younger, while Old Bennington Chief Joseph Young is associated with the department.
