Helicopters Rescue 400 From Blazing Sao Paulo Skyscraper

In Sao Paulo a 25 story Pirani Building housing a department store and offices burned after 3:15 pm. Sixteen helicopters airlifted more than 400 trapped occupants from the roof over six hours. Nine deaths were confirmed and over 400 injured as occupants jumped to escape flames. Officials saw no survivors likely inside as fire raged and a stairway problem was blamed.

Davis seeks to salvage tax cut in Vermont House

Gov Deane C Davis personally intervened to salvage a $1 million personal income tax cut in the omnibus bill. Coalition Won't Back Vernon Test License At Vernon Plant

Conservationists will not pursue a court challenge to block the AEC permit for start-up testing at Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corp in Vernon. Vermont CAP teams pressed the final air search for a missing Piper Aztec with two North Philadelphia men, Joe Mongi and William Beyer, believed overdue after radar contact and snowbound conditions.
