Incumbents Abound on Shaftsbury Ballots in March
Shaftsbury voters face a largely incumbent slate on March 2 with a lone major race between Republican Roy Whitman and Democrat John Billow for selectman. Billow, a 15 year resident and Cushman employee with an accounting degree, seeks road and tax reforms while Whitman touts his 13 years as selectman and road upkeep focus. Other races include unopposed treasurer Clint McDonald, clerk Cathleen Harwood, and lister contenders Alfred Wade and Rob Peterson. A key issue is whether to adopt permanent zoning with quarter acre village lots and half acre rural lots, plus subdivision rules, permits, and protections against land grabs, under an interim zoning framework soon expiring in June.
