Vermont Senate set to pass drug and election day drink bills
The Vermont Senate opened debate on a measure to let pharmacists advertise prescription prices and grant the Senate veto over pharmacy board nominees while aiming to curb out of state mail order drugs. Earlier, preliminary approval was given for liquor sales on election day. The panel trimmed recommendations from a state pharmaceutical probe and lowered the beer drinking age to 18 with safeguards.

Landmark Nursing Home Faces Razing In Bennington
A spokesman for W H Morse Construction says no trees will be removed when the former Warner Nursing Home is razed next week. Work continues salvaging value from the turn of the century woodframe property at South and Hillside. Friendly Ice Cream Co., owner of the corner lot, is likely behind the request to keep trees. Stained glass windows, reportedly Italian made, have been removed for Friendly, while one large window went to Mrs Marion Warner Powers who sold the property a decade ago. The house, built for Charles H Lindloff by William C Bull, has passed through eight owners and was once known as the White Elephant Inn. Oak paneling from the dining and music rooms has been bought by Bill Daniels. Wrecking is slated to begin next Wednesday and take about a week. Bull also built other local large homes including the former Fred Graves home now Fairview Nursing Home.
