Pownal Rescue Squad Faces End If Budget Fails
Pownal Center Rescue Squad, vital since 1960, warns it will cease by midnight March 4 without an $8,000 town meeting appropriation for a new ambulance. A federal highway act law requires updated equipment and services, threatening operation of the present 1952 vehicle. If disbanded, Bennington and Williamstown services may bill residents at $25, mutual aid with nearby squads ends, and local emergency calls would be redirected. Chief Ware urges a yes vote to keep the volunteer team operating and serving 76 calls in the year.
