Dorset suitcase yields Washington letters treasure

A dilapidated Dorset Vermont suitcase holding “family papers” revealed a major cache of original Revolutionary War letters. Union College announced 87 items, including 51 letters from Gen George Washington, with 11 unpublished, now housed in Schaffer Library. The find, unearthed by Dr Codman Hislop, will be publicly exhibited March 9 to 31, with Life magazine securing exclusive publication rights.

Falls Woman Killed In Head-On Collision

HOOSICK FALLS NY. Miss Alice Frances Burns 69 of 78 First St was killed and her niece and a Troy man injured in a head-on crash on NY 7 a mile east of Babcock Lake Rd Saturday afternoon. Burns rode with niece Helen V Kenyon 35 and the other driver was Thomas J O Connors 26 of 24 Maple Ave Troy. Burns to Putnam Memorial Hospital where pronounced dead. Kenyon treated and released. O Connors treated and released. Burns was longtime employee of Cluc ett Peabody and Co in Troy and a member of the Amal gamated Clothing Workers Union. Burial in St Marys Cemetery.

Reds Open Second Rocket Attack on Tan Son Nhut Airbase

Communist guerrillas launched a second heavy rocket assault on Tan Son Nhut outside Saigon as ground fighting flared around Tan Thoi village and a key Saigon River bridge. Westmoreland’s headquarters reportedly hit. casualties rose among American and Vietnamese troops while rail and road links near Bien Hoa were disrupted.

Tornado Hits Miami Rips Through 25-Block Area

A tornado described as worse than a hurricane struck Miami, injuring at least 12 people and causing extensive damage across a 25 block area. Police and metro officials surveyed the scene, noting smashed windows, toppled roofs, overturned cars, downed powerlines, and a ruined liquor store complex.
