Energy czar forecasts higher prices and less comfort

Federal Energy Administrator John F. O Leary warned in Washington that Carter policy would bring higher prices and reduced home comfort. He suggested a 65 degree home as a future norm and did not rule out raising the federal gasoline tax from 4 cents a gallon. He noted that gas price increases in recent years have slowed demand.

Dentists threaten to revoke tooth fairy program endorsement

Vermont dentists adopted a resolution at the mid-winter Vermont State Dental Society meeting threatening to withdraw their endorsement of the tooth fairy program if Gov. Richard Snelling’s budget cuts pass. Health Commissioner Marshall McBean warned about 120000 dollars in services must be cut to meet the proposed fiscal 1978 budget.

Czechs detain U S reporter during Prague visit

UPI reports New York Times correspondent Paul Hofmann was detained by Czechoslovak border guards for two hours, denied access to the U S Embassy, and had interview notes seized. The State Department said it would file protests in Prague and Washington. A similar incident involving NBC’s Leslie Colitz was noted earlier. Hofmann led a weeklong tour interviewing dissidents before being forced off a Prague train and into Austria.
