Bennington Aims $8,200 Budget for Five Elections in 1972

Bennington Selectmen approved an $11,380 1972 elections budget with $8,200 set aside for poll workers. The town faced higher wages than 1971 when overspending occurred. Poll workers will be paid $2.50 an hour, up from $2.25, and new changes expand at large voting for selectmen and cut polling places to two.

Propane center blast kills driver and injures firefighters

A series of explosions and a fire at a propane storage and distribution center on Chapman Street in Tewksbury Massachusetts killed Arthur Sutcliffe a 50 year old Lowell driver. At least 20 others including 15 firefighters were injured as flames spread to a large storage tank. Police said the blasts followed a back up into a pipe and a truck fire. Hospital officials noted third degree burns for Sutcliffe and William McAllister.
