Northeast Kingdom objects to possible loss of Senate seat
MONTPELIER UPI Senate Government Operations Committee planned testimony on a reapportionment plan cutting the northeast by one senate seat. Senators Arthur H. Jones and John H. Boylan of Essex County oppose shifting a seat to Chittenden County, suggesting Rutland or Addison counties as alternatives. They note Essex Orleans lost a seat previously and warn a northeast district would stretch 62 to 110 miles if merged with Caledonia. The plan proposes 15 districts with two senators each, rather than county lines.
