Bennington Vermont League studies 18-year-old vote
The Bennington Vermont Voters League announces two unit meetings this month on an introduction to Congress study and lowering the voting age. In 1970 the Supreme Court upheld federal voting rights for 18 to 20 year olds in federal elections but left state and local elections to states. Vermont considers H-26 to allow 18-year-olds to vote and H-13 to let 18-year-olds elect majority status. The League continues its discussion on state and local enfranchisement, with reference material in the public library. Meetings: Feb 10 at 8 p.m. at Mrs. James Conroy’s home West Road Route 9. Feb 18 at 10 a.m. at Mrs. Bradford Smith’s home Shaftsbury.
