1968 Apparel Production Looks Good AAMA Says
William H. Jennings Jr president of the American Apparel Manufacturers Association says the 1968 outlook for U S apparel makers is positive with rising sales likely but warns costs will rise. Minimum wage increased to 1.60 an hour Feb 1 and workers seek higher wages and benefits. Cotton crop shortfalls may push fabric prices up and substitutes may be used. Economists predict retail apparel sales near 39 billion dollars with much coming from higher prices or unit sales. Imports remain an unknown factor affecting the industry’s economy and competitiveness.
