In a letter from Mt Anthony Union School Board representative Antoinette Button from Woodford she opposes the proposed 3.2 million dollar operating budget for next year noting inflation and a junior high renovation. She advocates cuts including reducing teacher insurance costs about 69 thousand, cutting recreation center use 3 thousand, and possibly trimming buses and boys and girls programs totaling roughly 108 thousand. The piece argues such cuts would barely reduce taxes and hamper education while urging careful sacrifice and consistency in snow day decisions.
Antoinette G Button of Woodford writes to The Banner urging a vote NO on the Mount Anthony Union budget. She argues cuts can be found without harming curriculum, proposing halves of Blue Cross coverage for teachers, student fees for the swimming program, curbs on after school and detention transportation, and reevaluation of boys and girls programs. She notes MAU dropout rates higher than state average and urges voters to decide February 25, 1975.
A letter thanks the North Bennington Trustees for permitting the Junction Restaurant to open. Patrons describe a relaxed, community oriented venue with a moved bandstand and rearranged seating to limit noise. The letter celebrates local attendance from diverse residents and acknowledges management efforts to please neighbors.
A Vermont reminiscence recalls the 1930s crisis, CCC and state work programs, hunger and relief efforts, bank reopenings, and fears for the future. It contrasts past gloom with today’s energy concerns and cites budget cuts, salaries, and calls for prudent fiscal action. It also includes reflection on errors in public discourse and Supreme Court abortion rulings.
Tom Braden reflects on Ford’s leadership, Rockefeller’s possible role, and misreads of political dynamics after Nixon pardon. He notes Christmas summit absence, CIA probe tasking, and a lesson from history about the vice presidency, ending with a private anecdote about fences and remarriage. ITU Review and American Legion Magazine provide context.
The Hoosic River Basin Citizens Environmental Protection Association HRBCEPA is lauded for sustained local efforts in keeping streams clean. Members report upgrades to sewage plants, pollution controls, and cleanup days in Williamstown and Bennington, with tangible gains for Paran Creek and Lake Paran recreation.
