Supership Review Warns of Ecological Toll From Supertankers
Basil Thompson recounts Noel Mostert's Supership a twofold study of the Ardshiel supertanker voyage and its global toll on marine ecology. Oil spills and creeping ship size are linked to economic pressures, with examples like Torrey Canyon and Marpessa. The reviewer urges compulsory reading for policymakers.

South Africa to start color TV in 1976 under state controls
Johannesburg reports that South Africa will launch a color television service in January 1976 under Dr. Pieter Meyer. The plan, backed by Prime Minister Vorster, promises government aligned content and aims to bridge English and Afrikaans audiences while delaying a separate black channel. The project costs about $150 million, largely borrowed, with initial service on a single channel and content guarded against “corrupting” influences.
