Laos Struggle Mirrors Viet Nam in Hall of Power
The piece details Laos’s colonels' revolt within the neutralist government of Premier Souvanna Phouma. Gen. Phoumi Nosavan and Gen. Kouprasith Abhay vie for influence in Vientiane, while the United States restrains both sides to keep Laos from tipping toward Communism, amid weak neutralist control and Pathet Lao pressure.

Union Local Pickets Block Gilman Peace
Local 41 of the International Brotherhood of Pulp Sulfite and Paper mill Workers at Gilman Paper Co. refused to cross picket lines amid a strike that began last July 15. The firm warned that unless Local 41's Friday decision allowed crossing, the contract with 250 workers would be withdrawn. Local 119, representing about 50 workers, set up the rival picket, and Local 41 accused the company of reneging on a previously agreed pact. Local 41 asked Gov. Hoff to appoint a commission to resolve the strike.
