Annual GBA Awards Will Go To Andre Betit Barton Jenks
Andre H. Betit of 213 Park St has been named recipient of the Greater Bennington Association's Presidential Citation for 1965. The award, given annually to a community leader for contributions to Bennington, will be presented at the sixth annual Awards Dinner on Feb 8. Betit helped found organize and run the Bennington Rescue Squad, serving as president since its incorporation in 1963. The squad provides 24 hour emergency ambulance service, handles about 15 calls weekly, and employs 48 volunteers. Jenks of Shaftsbury receives the D. Ed. Moore Award for outstanding GBA contribution, for chairing the Prep Club started in 1964 to aid seniors entering the workforce. He helped recruit personnel and develop youth training concepts.
